Chris is a 76 yr. old retired teacher sharing her talents and work with her neighbors. Classes are also available for children. Her other business My Tutor Nana also serves the local community offering classes in reading, math, Spanish, and art. Many original paintings are for sale at https://manatee.shopwhereilive.com or by contacting Chris directly. Matted and frame prints are also available for many paintings.
Chris is an educated, experienced Spanish teacher, and an artist who enjoys sharing what she has learned from her extensive training and experiences. Her teaching style consists of sharing knowledge, encouraging students whatever their skill level, and giving calm useful suggestions. Please read through the course descriptions and then call or email Chris to discuss possibilities.
Water color matted prints 16×20 with backing and sleeve $20. I offer water color classes for you and one or two friends scheduled for 2 hrs. between 9 and 6 pm most days. If you don’t have an artistic buddy, let me know your schedule and interests so I can pair you up with someone. That way I can offer classes for $10 per hr per person + materials. Private classes are available for $25 an hour. You can always bring your own materials or I can supply paint and paper for about $5 per session.

Beginning Acrylic Painting- Each session will start with instruction and demonstration of several aspects such as colors, brushes, composition ,or techniques. Then, students can practice along with Chris on a scene with a sky, water, and trees or do their own painting with help as needed. Materials to bring, borrow or available at cost – acrylic paper, board or canvas, paints, brushes, pencil and eraser. Four 2 hr. sessions per calendar month $80. I find Joony art videos on You tube very easy to follow and highly successful for beginners. I encourage you to explore these 10 min videos and then come for my help on painting a beautiful painting. You can also bring your own landscape photographs.

Silk painting- A 16 inch square silk painting which can be mounted on canvas or a 60” scarf. Bring your ideas or drawings for a subject consisting of large flowers, other images or an abstract design See my Thai instructor’sface book pictures for ideas- Batik class with Oi. The process includes drawing, applying resist, painting with dye, fixing and washing, framing the squares, and if you want you can try wax batik. Materials $10 per project including silk, canvas, dyes and wax. Four 2 hr. sessions per calendar month $80.

Gyotaku Fish Prints

Original gyotaku fish prints and prints are for sale and great for decorating a Florida style room. My 26 ” red fish original prints are mounted on wood or metal and measure 12×36.$50. Many others are available as framed prints $25-$35 or matted prints $20.
A class can be organized with 2-4 students. We need 3 hours to prepare the fish and make 2 different prints. Estimated cost per person is $40 rice paper, $45 silk.
I can provide various 9-12 in. fish but if you want larger we must plan more. If you already have a friend to take the class or fish that helps get this going.

Spanish classes
Chris has a Master’s in Spanish teaching and has taught beginners and AP Language and Literature and also lived and taught in Latin American countries for about 5 years. She loves Spanish culture and language and has developed very effective methods for teaching students to speak Spanish.
After the first free consultation to check each student’s levels and interest, there will be a commitment for four 2-hour classes for $80. Specific used textbooks to be purchased are estimated at $10.
Beginning Spanish - Phonics, greetings, family, numbers, present tense, adjectives, time, important expressions.
Intermediate Spanish - A grammar book, reading book, conversation, and written assignments Content will depend on the level and needs of students.. Students will have different strengths and weaknesses, but all have studied Spanish and know the basics.
Reminder- Small groups must maintain 2-4 students. Individual classes are available at $25 per hour. Chris can travel up to 5 miles from home to meet groups but she prefers classes at ArtbyCmac Home Studio.
